Note from Nurse
Get Good Sleep – The push to finish well before Christmas break demands more attention on the part of parents. Research among students aged 15-17 years shows the benefits of good sleep in relation to school. Less than 8 hrs of time in bed during school nights was significantly associated with more sleep difficulties, wake time variability on school days and weekends, daytime tiredness, and less enjoyment at school. Sending and/or receiving text messages at night was significantly associated with later bedtimes, shorter time in bed, daytime tiredness during school, and irregular sleep habits. These findings highlight the importance of regular, consistent sleep habits and the problems associated with sleeping with a cell phone in the bedroom. Here is a great resource from the CDC regarding sleep and remember drinking more caffeine or energy drinks may make you feel more alert for a short time but we are just masking our tiredness. If we truly want to finish well and enjoy the holiday then sleep is what we need!
