A NOTE FROM SCHOOL NURSE
As Cambodia transitions into its cooler season, many residents may experience heightened respiratory sensitivity. The cooler December weather can trigger a rise in allergy-related symptoms, such as runny noses, itchy/watery eyes, and coughs.
Tips to Manage Your Allergies:
- Indoor Protection
- Dust mites thrive indoors, especially in bedding and furniture. Clean your living space regularly.
- Use air purifiers if possible.
- Change bedding weekly.
- Outdoor Precautions
- Stay indoors during windy days when dust circulation is high or smoke from rubbish burning.
- Wear a mask when venturing outside, especially early morning or evening.
- Shower after extended outdoor activities to remove allergens.
- Health Habits
- Keep windows closed during peak dusty periods.
- Stay hydrated to help your body naturally fight allergens.
- Consider using a humidifier to maintain optimal indoor air moisture.
If symptoms persist or worsen, it is advisable to consult a healthcare provider for personalized advice. Individuals experiencing persistent symptoms may benefit from using an antihistamine during this season.
