A NOTE FROM SCHOOL NURSE
This week, let us talk about the proper use of medicine. It is truly a gift to have modern medicine. It has come to aid our busy lifestyle. When there is a need for a “quick fix” to a health problem, we turn to medicine in the hope of a speedy recovery. In Phnom Penh, or even the whole country, pharmacies are fairly a common sight and some pharmacists would prescribe medications for anyone who asks and treats customers according to stated symptoms and more. Though medicines can help, this is a risky behavior. Seeking advice from healthcare providers should be the first go-to response. A treatment for symptoms does not address the root problem. Our body is a gift from the Lord. Usually, it tells us when something is not right by causing a feeling of uneasiness and waking up at night with specific symptoms. If your body is telling you to rest (even in the form of being sick), it is meant for you to slow down and may be a good time to visit a healthcare provider. Slowing down can be an abnormal thing to do these days, but rest should and needs to be a part of a person’s life. A healthy life requires balance in everything we do and what we put into our bodies. It is sometimes challenging, but a balanced life is far better than any medicine. As we live right, our children will see and learn to live well by watching us.
