Keeping on Healthy Habits

The school holiday (Water Festival) is only a few days away. The excitement for family trips and a lot more spending time together with your children will require some creative ideas, especially for the little ones! With a whole week of no classes, this could mean that the normal routine can be a bit challenging to keep. Students may want to enjoy time off by staying up late catching up on their programs, TV shows, gaming, or just to rejuvenate. The care free spirit will kick in when that last bell rings on Friday afternoon. Whatever the choices over the next week maybe, do keep in mind that healthy habits will keep our children/students well and healthy. A healthy student is a student that is ready to learn.

Here are 8 habit tips to keep our children/students healthy:

  1. Spend at least an hour a day being physically active – choose activities that they or all family members can enjoy
  2. Spend no more than 2 hours per day watching TV and/or playing video and computer games – alternatively: visit loved ones, playing board games, make memories, do something fun as a family
  3. Eat at least a total of 5 fruits and vegetables everyday
  4. Snack on healthy foods and less junk food and sweets
  5. Drink or eat at least 3 low fat dairy foods a day
  6. Drink at least 2 glasses or bottles of water a day instead of soda
  7. Eat less fast food and make healthier fast food choices
  8. Eat smaller amounts – bigger is not better

And, at least 6-8 hrs (younger children 9-10 hrs) of rest each night helps the body to stay well.

I wish your family wonderful times together. May you be safe during this water festival holiday. Many blessings from our gracious Lord.
