A NOTE FROM SCHOOL NURSE
Swimming is an important part of a school’s curriculum as it promotes safety, health, and well-being among students. In Cambodia, students who attend public schools do not have the privilege of being taught how to swim. As a result, many adults and children in Cambodia do not know how to swim. Tragedies from drowning are preventable by teaching young children the important skill of swimming.
At Logos, students participate in swimming classes as part of their academic requirements. It is a low-impact exercise that promotes flexibility, coordination, cardiovascular strength, and muscle strength. Most importantly, it is a lifelong skill that prevents drowning, and it can be enjoyed at any age. Students are required to participate in swimming activities on their scheduled days.
If students are unable to participate, parents need to ask permission ahead of time with legitimate reasons or a medical certificate. If students are sick with a fever, persistent coughs, diarrhea, pink eye, or other infectious illnesses, students need to stay home until they fully recover. However, there are some cases where students are able to come to school but are still unable to swim due to chronic ear infections, infected wounds that need to be fully covered, or other reasons provided by their healthcare providers.
