KHMER NEW YEAR

We hope that everyone had a safe and enjoyable break.  We are aware that many people travelled over the holiday and we have already seen an increase in students displaying signs of Covid infection.

Please watch out for the signs and if students are unwell, then they should not attend school.  Rapid tests are readily available and can be administered at home for those looking for any confirmation of a positive or negative outcome.

Re-Enrollment Form 2022-2023

We need to know everyone’s intentions for schooling next year, so please make sure you have completed the Re-Enrollment Survey that was sent out from the office (please contact us if you can not locate this).  The closing date for re-enrollment is with the close of business on Friday 22nd April 2022.  That is THIS WEEK.  Remember:  the payment of next year’s Media Fee secures this place! If you missed out the email, please find it as attached here.

A NOTE FROM SCHOOL NURSE

Welcome back!

We pray that your Khmer New Year celebrations were restful and allowed you to reconnect with family members. We currently only have about 5.5 weeks of school left until summer break. It is common that students who have traveled to multiple places and attended gatherings feel exhausted when returning to school. During a holiday, a person’s sleep schedule changes and may result in sleep deprivation. Additionally, large group gatherings among family members, relatives, and friends result in the spreading of germs. Students often report feeling unwell after a holiday. Many experience abdominal pain, headache, and general fatigue. Please keep your child home if he/she feels unwell and notify our office. Helping your child readjust to school routines and a regular sleep schedule is essential in finishing the academic year with success.

BUILDING PROGRESS

Our builders have enjoyed a number of days off for the Khmer New Year holiday and so things on the site are quiet – the full work force should be back in tomorrow morning.  Before the break they manage to get most of the roofing sheets on and the gutter fitted around the wing – just as well with the change in weather!

LIBRARY CORNER

Dear Parents:

We are about to start the Elementary Reading Competition! My hope is to encourage the important habit of daily reading as we head into the Summer break.

This year the competition will run for three weeks from April 23rd to May 13th and include grades 1-5. Students will keep track of how much reading they do throughout each week and report each Friday how many minutes they read that week. The reading logs are only to be filled in on Fridays (April 29th, May 6th, and May 13th). This year we are limiting the number of minutes reported to 2100 minutes per week. There will be a chance to win the weekly prize draw for everyone who reports reading that week. There will also be an extra chance to win the weekly prize draw for those who hand in book reviews that week.

Students will be divided into teams, and each week we will announce which team has read the most. All the students on the winning team will get a prize at the end of the competition. There will also be a prize for the student in each grade who reads the most minutes.

I will also email the students to let them know what team they are on and share the links to the reading logs. Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Ms. Unger
