A Quick History

Cambodia is still recovering from recent war and genocide under a more stable government.  Progress is evident yet slow.  Infrastructure is very basic, corruption squanders opportunities, and in addition, education is on an elementary level.  On top of this, AIDS and child trafficking claim the lives of many children. Today is a crucial time for reaching out to Cambodia; half of the population is under twenty-five years of age.  Imagine the impact on their country’s future if this young generation of Cambodians could receive a Christian education, and by God’s grace, grow up to be Christian leaders and citizens of Cambodia!

Logos International School is a ministry of the not-for-profit, international non-governmental organization, Asian Hope Cambodia and is located in Phnom Penh Thmey, a northwest suburb in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.  The mission of our school is to provide a quality, Christian education to our orphans at the Asian Hope boys’ and girls’ homes, to the local Cambodians who may or may not be able to afford it, to the missionary families serving here in Cambodia, and to all those who are interested in a quality “English language based” international education.  Logos is a fully accredited member of both the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).  Many of the teachers at Logos come from North America.  Cambodian teacher’s aides assist in the classroom and are mentored by classroom teacher.  In many ways, it is like an apprenticeship program for these talented Cambodians, preparing them for future teaching opportunities.  Currently, Logos serves over 300 students from pre-school to grade 12.  The average class size is twenty-four students per grade.

Logos opened its doors in September 2002 with an enrollment of 58 students ranging from pre-kindergarten to grade seven.  At that time, Logos consisted of a single renovated house and an adjacent empty lot where a basketball court and small swimming pool were soon built.  Since that time, Logos added an additional grade level each year.  In the spring of 2008, Logos held its first graduation ceremony for 13 seniors.  Logos’ brand new campus consists of a basketball/volleyball/hockey court, athletic field, playground, library, cafeteria, 2 computer labs, 2 science labs, multi-purpose assembly room, and a swimming pool.  All of the classrooms are air-conditioned and equipped with essential teaching tools.  Our new facility is twice the size of our former location. We are very excited about this new provision.

Prior to the establishment of Logos, there was no viable Christian school option in Phnom Penh.  A quality education for low-income Cambodian children was hard to find.  In addition, missionary families had the alternative of sending their children to expensive non-Christian schools, home school, or boarding school in Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, etc.  The local system, while improving, is still far from providing an adequate education, and international schools in Phnom Penh are either very expensive or of poor quality.  To help meet this need, Logos provides affordable tuition rates for all and full or partial scholarships to over 50 Khmer students totaling nearly $150,000 USD.  Some of these students are from the original Asian Hope children’s, but a large number are the children of Khmer pastors and Christian workers.  Each year, Logos gives the equivalent of two full scholarships to deserving students.  This group of students has blessed our student body.

By God’s grace, our school has grown in ways we could not have dreamed. Since its simple beginnings, Logos been blessed with professionals who have developed curriculum, created elective classes and special programs, and brought education to a new level. Today Logos offers an extensive curriculum with the intent to bring high quality education and solid Biblical truths to each student. An array of faces fills the Logos campus. Many of our students are Cambodian; other students come from countries including Pakistan, Korea, Japan, United States, Canada, Netherlands, China, and Thailand, and more.  By having a 40% enrollment of Cambodian students, we are reaching the young people for Christ, and these young people will truly be the future leaders of this war-ravaged country.

MISSION STATEMENT

Our Mission

Logos International School is dedicated to academic excellence in providing a well-rounded, quality Christian education to students from all ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. Upon graduation, students will be equipped to view all aspects of life from a biblical perspective, to serve and help transform their communities for Christ, and to pursue further education.

OUR VISION

The Vision

Logos aims to graduate young men and women who think clearly and listen carefully with discernment and understanding; who reason persuasively and articulate precisely; who are capable of evaluating their entire range of experience in the light of the Scriptures. We aim to find them well prepared in all situations, possessing both information and the knowledge of how to use it. We desire them be socially graceful and spiritually gracious; equipped with and understanding the tools of learning; desiring to grow in understanding, yet fully realizing the limitations and foolishness of the wisdom of this world. We desire they have a heart for the lost and the courage to seek to dissuade those who are stumbling towards destruction; that they distinguish real religion from religion in form only; and that they possess the former, knowing and loving the Lord Jesus Christ. And all these we desire them to possess with humility and gratitude to God. We aim to cultivate these same qualities in our staff. We desire them to be professional and diligent in their work, gifted in teaching, loving their students and their subjects. We desire that they possess a lifelong hunger to learn and grow. We desire to see them coach and nurture new staff and to serve as academic mentors to students. We look to see them mature in Christ, growing in the knowledge of God. We aim to cultivate in our parents a sense of responsibility for the school; to see them well informed about the goals andmethodology of our Christ-centered approach. We desire them to grow with the school, involved in and excited about the journey. Finally, in our relationship with our community, we aim to be above reproach in our business dealings and supportive of the local and expatriate community. We further seek to exemplify the unity of the body of Christ, to develop greater fellowship and understanding with the churches, and to bring honor to our Lord in all our endeavors.

STATEMENT OF FAITH

What We Believe…

  • We believe the Bible to be the only inerrant, authoritative Word of God.
  • We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.
  • We believe that for salvation of lost and sinful man, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely necessary.
  • We believe that salvation is by grace through faith alone.
  • We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.
  • We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost — they that are saved to the resurrection of life and they that are lost to the resurrection of damnation.
  • We believe in the spiritual unity of all believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.
