Wednesday Update:December 2nd, 2009

wed-updateDear Logos Family,

I am not sure how much you have heard about “Global Warming”, but for a long time now, scientists have been noting that humans are responsible for this disturbing warming trend here on our Earth. Also you may not be aware but much of the research about Global Warming comes out of the CRU, the Climate Research Unit. However, just recently, in what has been called the biggest science scandal in a generation (dubbed “Climategate”), Phil Jones, the head of the Climate Research Unit has been forced to resign due to altering research data to make them fit his presentations (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,578486,00.html). In other words, is global warming a scientific truth or not? Certainly it is thrown into question.

Now of course science does have process to test the accuracy of the global warming information. Part of the process of science is that other scientists can reproduce and test the original data results that the CRU has. However, part of the problem is that apparently the “original data” was mysteriously lost. This is not suspicious is it?

On the weekend, it was revealed that most of the raw temperature data for CRU was thrown away! Jones said it didn’t really matter because they kept their own modified version of the data which he said is 95% the same as the original. He referred to this modified version as ”value-added data”.  (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/environment/article6936328.ece)

The problem, of course, is that there’s no way for outsiders to check the validity of their work. Accountability is therefore non-existent. And that’s a very bad thing in science.

Perhaps an almost equal scandal is how the TV networks have refused to cover Climategate. Do a search on the websites of CNN, ABC, NBC, and CBS and you’ll find…almost nothing. Is it any surprise the “mainstream” media outlets continue to suffer market share declines while FoxNews has ratings going through the roof. (http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2009/11/30/john-lott-climate-change-emails-obama-copenhagen/)

Science, in theory, is a wonderful field of study and research. The whole idea of studying what is known, creating the hypothesis, setting up the experiment to test the hypothesis, the process of gathering data, and the interpretation of the data in a factual way is a wonderful part of learning and testing our known surroundings. However,  this latest scandal creates some more bad PR problems for scientists and science. This cover-up, changing of data, and misrepresentation of the true findings, is part of a long string of corrupt individuals who have given the field of science a bad name. From those individuals in science who tried to misrepresent their data to make their findings fit the Darwinian theories, to those scientists who don’t permit the open discussion of intelligent design, to now a top organization in the world that is making up data to fit the idea of Global Warming- this is completely against the true intent of science.

Placing the full notion of “truth” in fallible human scientists, will continue in the future to create deceptions.  However, perhaps “real” and pure truth is beyond the corruptible human condition and lies elsewhere. Jesus, of the Bible, claimed to be the truth.

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6).

Science shudders at this idea because it can’t prove “Jesus is God” in a known experiment. However, a close study of the Christian Bible can offer the truth for our lives here on earth: “Teach me your way, O LORD, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.” Psalm 86:11.

And now the Unaltered and wonderfully truthful Wednesday Update.

A Time to Bless

Logos Service Leadership class is asking for help from the Logos Community. Service Leadership is planning on putting together Christmas packages for children who are less fortunate. We need your help to get some of these resources, so that we can give more. For every package donated by the families of Logos, the Service Leadership will provide a T-shirt and candy for that child as well. If you wish to join with us and bless children in Cambodia this Christmas season, please ensure that each package your child brings in includes the following items:

• A Small Notebook
• A pair of socks
• 3 Pencils
• Color Pencils
• Stickers
• An eraser
• 1 pair of Socks

There is no limit to how many packages your child brings, but please make sure each package is in its own plastic bag. And for the class that brings in the most percentage of packages per student in their class, the Service leadership would like to bless them for their there generosity with 3 free dress down days and class donuts.

Elementary Christmas Concert held at current school gym

The kids are practicing hard and gearing up for a great show.  Here is some important changed information you need to know!

The time and date for the Elementary Christmas Concert, “KING JESUS… Receive the King” will stay the same, but the LOCATION of the concert will change.

Due to a number of  factors, the Elementary concert will be hosted AT THE CURRENT LOGOS LOCATION, not the new Logos school, as originally planned.  Students will be informed verbally; individual teachers will send home notices.  So, please do not make plans to head out to the new school for the elementary concert, as it will take place in our current gym!  Thank you for your understanding in this change:
So, for review:

WHO:  All Logos Elementary students K-5, including Pre K 3&4
WHAT:  Christmas Concert “KING JESUS… Receive the King”

Please make sure you come and look at the lost and found items over the two weeks or so.  We will be getting rid of all of these items at the end of the month, and would hate to donate something that belongs to you that you still want.

Logos to Participate in YAPP

Logos has the opportunity to participate with the YAPP  program (Young Athletes of Phnom Penh), which has organized soccer for grades 3-5 this month and next. YAPP is a chance for students from different participating schools (NISC, ISPP, HOPE, ICAN, LOGOS) and with different matched student levels of ability to play games with one another in a fun and educational way.

Students will leave Logos by bus at 2:45 pm to go to NISC. Games will be from 3:30-4:30pm. Cost is $2.50 (for each date). Parents may pick up their child after the game at NISC or back at Logos at 5pm.

Dates for the YAPP Soccer Program are November 19, December 3 and 10th.”

If you would like to have your child participate, please bring in a permission form (available at the office) and monies to the Logos Office .

Asian Hope International School

Please find attached a copy of an advertising leaflet for the Asian Hope International School which is starting in January 2010. This school is offering a bi-lingual programme in Khmer and English and will be operating in the main building of the present Logos school site. I would appreciate if you could please pass this leaflet on to friends that you know who may be looking at schooling possibilities
for their younger children. Should you require some printed leaflets to hand out to your friends, we have these at the Logos office and you can collect them there. Thanks for your help in advertising the
school.
Yours sincerely
